One of the first things children learn is how to use gravity to their advantage.  One of the first things civil engineers all over the world forgot when planning airports was gravity.

Most runways in the world are nearly flat. When you want to get rolling, downhill is helpful.  When you want to come to a stop, uphill makes it easier.  Airport runways should be inclined.
